The Polecat Lives

Sorry everyone, this post is really just for the former residents (and frequent visitors) of Campus Townhomes #110, but you’re all welcome to read on…

When you live with a bunch of bike guys you’ve got to have a good way of storing all your bikes. In ’95 we had such a need. There were 4 of us and at any point in time a minimum of 10 bikes. Sure, we could have just leaned all the bikes up or left them strewn about the apartment like so many dirty dishes but when you’re running to answer the Bat Phone you don’t want to be climbing over a bunch of bikes. Enter the Polecat.

Polecats weren’t perfect, sometimes they fell over in the middle of the night, but the pros far outweighed the cons. They stored bikes efficiently, they gave you another place to slap some of your impressive sticker collection, and you could even take a quick nap underneath them at a party without fear of being stepped on. ;-)

Somehow this piece of great college cycling history managed to not be thrown out over the years. It moved from apartment to apartment, into our first house, and even made the trip to and from New York City. Now I am proud to say, the day has finally come when my Polecat once again proudly stores my bikes, displays my stickers, and may yet again provide a cozy place for a nap.
